Fellowship Components
Program Induction The initial introduction to the program, this session builds a vision for high academic and behavioral expectations, and matriculates teacher-leaders into their peer cohort.
Summer Intensive This week-long series of professional development sessions takes place both summers, and is led by nationally recognized innovators in urban education as well as dynamic local practitioners. The Summer Intensive lays the foundation for the Leadership Competency Framework, a tool used to assess participant growth over the two-year program.
Twilight Sessions and Weekend Workshops These monthly program sessions provide school year continuity, introducing new ideas to increase skillfulness and stimulate implementation plans for school improvement. Topics include: building aligned teams, the use of formative assessment, developing a culture of student investment, adaptive leadership styles and more.
Problem Solving Communities Led by a skilled facilitator, these peer discussion groups meet regularly during the academic year and give teacher-leaders the opportunity to discuss leadership challenges.
Intensive Coaching Support Best practices learned in Leading Educators professional development sessions take on new meaning with the support of a dedicated Leadership Coach, offering teacher-leaders the opportunity to apply learned skills directly at their schools. The coaching relationship offers intensive support aimed at achievable goals, culminating in a School Impact Project.
School Visits Trip Teacher-leaders travel annually to exemplary open-admissions schools with a proven track record of closing the achievement gap for underserved students. Past School Visits Trips destinations include: Boston, Chicago and Houston.
Leadership Impact Project With the support of a Leadership Coach and colleagues, teacher-leaders design and execute a two-year project that will raise the achievement of a target group of students and develop the capacity of other adults within their sphere of influence.
The Commitment
Two-years of active participation - a formidable commitment - is essential for success in completing the Leading Educators Fellowship. It may not be for everyone. But for those who have the courage of their convictions, the rewards are immeasurable.
