NEW ORLEANS, July 7, 2016 – Leading Educators has received a $300,000 commitment from Baptist Community Ministries (BCM) to support the instructional leadership development of teacher leaders across Greater New Orleans over the next two years.

Leading Educators (LE) works to ensure that all children have a fair chance to succeed in school, work, and life. LE raises the academic achievement of students by developing teachers to take on leadership roles within their schools, thereby expanding the influence of these highly effective teachers. LE collaborates with schools and school districts that serve economically disadvantaged students to maximize the leadership development of mid-career teachers, which ultimately improves the quality of teaching and learning in schools. This approach, and the impact of this grant, yields high student achievement, helps schools retain great teachers, and bolsters the principal talent pipeline.

The grant from BCM will benefit the students of 24 teacher leaders and their principals from eight schools enrolled in the Teacher Leader Teams Fellowship. These teacher leaders serve in open-enrollment schools where more than 85% of students receive free or reduced priced meals. The 24 teacher leaders currently enrolled in LE’s programs support over 190 teachers and impact over 5,500 students in grades preK-12.

“To date, Leading Educators has worked with 188 Leading Educators Fellows and Alumni who lead approximately 1,504 teachers and impact a total of 43,240 students. BCM is committed to the development of a healthy community in New Orleans and we are pleased to support the impactful work at Leading Educators as they pursue their vision of great schools for all students.” – Jennifer Roberts, Vice President, Education, Baptist Community Ministries
