Alisha Watts Burr
Director of Math Content

Alisha Watts Burr is a teacher development specialist and educator who is driven by her love of learning and commitment to a high-quality education for all students. She supports math teacher leaders through the development of professional learning content cycles for teachers in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as the Director of Math Content for Network 1 at Leading Educators.

Alisha’s “Why”

Alisha knows first-hand how education can affect the trajectory of a family’s opportunities for generations. She became an educator to help students furthest from opportunity gain access to the type of high-quality education that she was fortunate to receive growing up. One of Alisha’s greatest joys is seeing the pride of students when they gain new understandings.

Alisha’s Journey

Prior to her current role at Leading Educators, Alisha supported math and science school leaders in District of Columbia Public Schools and Leading Educators’ LEAP (Learning Together to Advance our Practice) program as a Leadership Coach. Alisha came to Leading Educators from DC Prep Academy, where she served as a special education math teacher and, later, Dean of Academic Support in DC’s highest performing charter middle school. She began her career as a special education teacher at the SEED Public Charter School of Washington, DC.

Alisha holds an A.B. in Psychology from Princeton University and an M.A. in Social Psychology from the University of Arizona. She lives in the Washington, DC area with her husband, two sons, and tiny dog. Alisha enjoys spending time with her family, creating and enjoying good food, and traveling (ideally, to sunny places).

Fun-fact: Alisha was born and raised in Southern New Jersey as the oldest of four. She returns to her hometown every summer to share her love of the beach, boardwalk, and fresh Jersey produce with her boys.
