Adan Garcia
he/him/his
Associate Director of Communications

Adan is a communications and public policy strategist who is driven to elevate the voices of educators and students in social change. He leads storytelling and community engagement efforts as the Associate Director of Communications at Leading Educators.

Adan’s Why

As a Hispanic/Latinx public schools student in New Mexico, Adan felt fortunate to have teachers who looked like him and who instilled a belief in high expectations throughout his K-12 experiences.  He later realized the level of encouragement and rigor he experienced in the classroom wasn’t a reality for all students, and that difference in opportunity significantly influenced the goals students set for themselves. Those experiences and a growing awareness of inequities within and beyond New Mexico fueled a passion for strengthening schools as the foundation for even stronger communities.

Adan’s Journey

Previously, Adan supported instructional leaders at 30 open-enrollment public charter schools in Washington, D.C. as a Program Manager at Leading Educators.  Before joining Leading Educators, Adan coached teams of undergraduate social entrepreneurs and instructed courses in public leadership with the College Park Scholars and the Rawlings Undergraduate Leadership Fellows programs at the University of Maryland.  He began his career in K-12 education designing a program evaluation approach for America Achieves' Educator Voice Fellowships in Colorado, Michigan, and New York and consulting on development strategy for Public Allies.

Adan holds a M.P.P in social policy and nonprofit management from the University of Maryland and a B.A. in political science from the University of Arizona.

He lives in Washington, D.C. and spends his free time taking in the arts, volunteering with community-based education groups, playing intramural kickball, and performing the occasional karaoke solo.

What inspires Adan: I nerd out on all things social innovation and social good, especially when they’re cross-sector and community-driven.  I firmly believe the solutions to our most challenging opportunities are within reach, but it takes thoughtful listening, resource and idea sharing, and coordination to get there.

Fun-fact:  Adan is a triplet.
